Fishing Report May 27 – June 4th
Unfortunately due to some rough weather we were only able to run 4 times in the past week.
May 27th was great fishing. We had some nice looking halibut and a wide assortment of rockfish. The spiny dog fish moved in on us for the day and we had to pick through those to get our halibut, but we still prevailed. Prince William Sound was flat calm but the Gulf of Alaska gave us a run for our money. We didn’t last long out there until we moved in to calmer waters.
May 30th brought in some of the largest Black Rockfish to date! We spent the day fishing out in the Gulf of Alaska and brought in all of our fish of any size and 5 out of 6 of our under 29 inch fish. I think in total we caught 26 halibut. We were being picky so a lot of fish were thrown back. No spiny dog fish today.
May 31st turned into a crew day. We spent the day on the water in 80 degree weather without a ripple on the water. We stayed in close and boy did we get into the Salmon Sharks. They were all over the place! We ended up coming home with a beautiful 25 pound King Salmon, a 60 pound halibut and a 40 pound halibut. We decided to spend the better part of our day touring Harriman Fjord and Surprise Glacier, the most active glacier in Prince William Sound.
June 1st Captain Jeff took over the Saltwater Addiction for the day. Boy did they get into fish! They had already kept their any size fish and were throwing back 50 pound fish looking for their under 29 inch fish. Does something seem wrong about that? The clients were also able to get a limit of rockfish on top of their limit of Halibut!
June 3rd and 4th…..Thar’ she blows!
