How do I get to Whittier?
Anchorage to Whittier
Drive south from Anchorage on the Seward Highway approx. 40 miles. Turn left at Portage Glacier Road and continue to Bear Valley, bearing left at the “Y” in the road. Go through the Anton Memorial Tunnel. This tunnel is open once an hour going either way for only 15 minutes. PLEASE PLAN ACCORDINGLY.
Whittier is approximately 1.25 hours from Anchorage. We recommend arriving at the tunnel fifteen minutes prior to opening.
For the current tunnel schedule or current tunnel fees, call 877-611-2586, or consult Alaska DOT’s website.
